Writing this foreword for you gives me great pleasure, because it represents the culmination of many months of hard work delivered by our engineering team to achieve a very ambitious goal: presenting four stereo amplifier sections in one compact and flexible headphone amplifier. The task of designing our new AMP800 certainly meant a great deal of responsibility, which we assumed by focusing on you, the discerning user and musician. Meeting your expectations also meant a lot of work and night shifts. But it was fun, too. Developing a product usually brings a lot of people together, and what a great feeling it is when everybody who has participated in such a project can be proud of what they’ve achieved.

It is our philosophy to share our enjoyment with you, because you are the most important member of the BEHRINGER team. With your highly competent suggestions for new products, you’ve made a significant contribution to help shape our company and make it successful. In return, we guarantee you uncompromising quality, as well as excellent

1. INTRODUCTION

Thank you very much for expressing your confidence in our products by purchasing one of our headphone amplifier systems. This 4-channel stereo headphone amplifier is designed for use with all types of headphones and therefore provides maximum flexibility. Its high-power stereo amplifiers guarantee the highest sonic quality. The ultra low-noise 4580 operational amplifiers ensure outstanding audio performance.

Please read the manual carefully and keep it around for future reference.

1.1 Before you begin

1.1.1 Shipment

Your AMP800 was carefully packed at the factory, and the packaging was designed to protect the unit from rough handling. Nevertheless, we recommend that you carefully examine the packaging and its contents for any signs of physical damage that may have occurred during transit.

If the unit is damaged, please do NOT return it to BEHRINGER. Instead, notify your dealer and the shipping company immediately. Otherwise, claims for damage or replacement may not be honored.

Always use the original packing carton to prevent damage during storage or transport.

Make sure that no children are left unsupervised with the AMP800 or its packaging.

Please ensure proper disposal of all packing materials.

1.1.2 Initial operation

Do not put the AMP800 on any equipment that generates intense heat, for example an amplifier. Ensure that the ventilation openings that are located on the top panel of the AMP800 are not covered or blocked.

To power the AMP800, use only the power supply unit that is delivered with your equipment.

2. CONTROL ELEMENTS

The AMP800 is a headphone amplifier that includes 4 Headphone Channels, so you can share the

AMP800 with other musicians. In addition, each musician can choose between 2 audio channels: Input Channel A and Input Channel B.

Ensure that only qualified personnel set up and operate the AMP800.

2.1 Front panel

This section describes how to use the front panel of the AMP800, illustrated as follows:

In the previous illustration, each control element is associated with a callout, for example . In this section, use these callouts to identify details about each control element.

For each Input Channel (A and B), the front panel includes control elements and . To manage the signal in each of these Input Channels, use these control elements:

LEVEL control: To adjust the input level of a signal, turn this control toward 0 (minimum level) or, alternatively 6 (maximum level).

BALANCE control: To adjust the stereo image of a signal, turn this control toward L (left) or, alternatively R (right).

A + B meter: To monitor the combined level of both signals (A and B), use this meter. An LED glows next to the value that identifies the combined level (-24dB to 0 dB). If the signal is too strong, the CLIP LED glows. Most of the time, the optimal level is 0 dB (a full signal).

For each Headphone Channel (1, 2, 3, and 4), the front panel includes control elements through

. To manage each Headphone Channel, use these control elements:

(headphone) connector: To connect a headphone, use this stereo, ¼' TRS connector. For details about TRS plugs, see 4. AUDIO CONNECTIONS.

INPUT button: To select an Input Channel, push this button. When you listen to:

Input Channel A, this button is not pushed in and not lit Input Channel B, this button is pushed in and lit

PHONES LEVEL control: To adjust the level of a headphone signal, turn this control toward 0 (minimum volume) or, alternatively 6 (maximum volume).

CH meter: To monitor the level of a headphone signal, use this meter. An LED glows next to the value that identifies the headphone volume (-24dB to 0 dB). If the signal is too strong, the CLIP LED glows. Most of the time, the optimal volume is 0 dB (a full signal).

(power) button: To turn the AMP800 on and off, push this button. When you turn the AMP800: on, this button is pushed in and lit

When you finish using the AMP800, unplug the power supply unit from the power source. As long as the power supply unit is connected to a power source, the power supply unit consumes energy.

2.2 Rear panel

This section describes how to use the rear panel to set up the AMP800.

The following illustrates the rear panel of the AMP800:

In the previous illustration, each control element is associated with a callout, for example . In this section, use these callouts to identify details about each control element:

POWER connector: To power the AMP800, connect the power supply unit to this connector.

This power supply unit is delivered with the AMP800.

PHONES OUT connectors: For each Headphone Channel (1, 2, 3, and 4), the rear panel includes an additional headphone connector, which is a stereo, ¼' TRS connector.

LINK OUT A connectors: If you need more than the 4 Headphone Channels that a single

AMP800 provides, connect these balanced, ¼' TRS connectors (Left and Right) to the inputs of another AMP800. The LINK OUT A connectors send only the signal of Input Channel A, without any LEVEL or BALANCE settings.

INPUT connectors: For each Input Channel (A and B), the rear panel includes 2 balanced, ¼' TRS connectors (Left and Right). Connect them to the outputs of a mixer, a CD player, or a soundcard. For mono signals, use only the L connector.

If the output is balanced and you insert unbalanced, ¼' TS plugs in the INPUT connectors, the signal level will decrease 6 dB. To raise the signal level, use the relevant LEVEL control ( ).

SERIAL NUMBER: To register the AMP800, use this unique serial number. For details about TS and TRS plugs, see 4. AUDIO CONNECTIONS.

3. SETUP EXAMPLE

The following example illustrates the role of the AMP800 in your audio setups:

7.WARRANTY

§1 OTHER WARRANTY RIGHTS AND NATIONAL LAW

1.This warranty does not exclude or limit the buyer’s statutory rights provided by national law, in particular, any such rights against the seller that arise from a legally effective purchase contract.

2.The warranty regulations mentioned herein are applicable unless they constitute an infringement of national warranty law.

§3 WARRANTY

1.BEHRINGER (BEHRINGER International GmbH including all BEHRINGER subsidiaries listed on the enclosed page, except BEHRINGER Japan) warrants the mechanical and electronic components of this product to be free of defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year* from the original date of purchase, in accordance with the warranty regulations described below. If the product shows any defects within the specified warranty period that are not excluded from this warranty as described under § 5, BEHRINGER shall, at its discretion, either replace or repair the product using suitable new or reconditioned parts. In the case that other parts are used which constitute an improvement, BEHRINGER may, at its discretion, charge the customer for the additional cost of these parts.

2.If the warranty claim proves to be justified, the product will be returned to the user freight prepaid.

3.Warranty claims other than those indicated above are expressly excluded.

§4 RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER

1.To obtain warranty service, the buyer (or his authorized dealer) must call BEHRINGER (see enclosed list) during normal business hours BEFORE returning the product. All inquiries must be accompanied by a description of the problem. BEHRINGER will then issue a return authorization number.

2.Subsequently, the product must be returned in its original shipping carton, together with the return authorization number to the address indicated by BEHRINGER.

3.Shipments without freight prepaid will not be accepted.

§5 WARRANTY REGULATIONS

1.Warranty services will be furnished only if the product is accompanied by a copy of the original retail dealer’s invoice. Any product deemed eligible for repair or replacement under the terms of this warranty will be repaired or replaced.

2.If the product needs to be modified or adapted in order to comply with applicable technical or safety standards on a national or local level, in any country which is not the country for which the product was originally developed and manufactured, this modification/adaptation shall not be considered a defect in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover any such modification/ adaptation, irrespective of whether it was carried out properly or not. Under the terms of this warranty, BEHRINGER shall not be held responsible for any cost resulting from such a modification/adaptation.

3.Free inspections and maintenance/repair work are expressly excluded from this warranty, in particular, if caused by improper handling of the product by the user. This also applies to defects caused by normal wear and tear, in particular, of faders, crossfaders, potentiometers, keys/buttons, tubes, guitar strings, illuminants and similar parts.

4. Damages/defects caused by the following conditions are not covered by this warranty:

improper handling, neglect or failure to operate the unit in compliance with the instructions given in BEHRINGER user or service manuals.

connection or operation of the unit in any way that does not comply with the technical or safety regulations applicable in the country where the product is used.

damages/defects caused by force majeure or any other condition that is beyond the control of BEHRINGER.

5.Any repair or opening of the unit carried out by unauthorized personnel (user included) will void the warranty.

6.If an inspection of the product by BEHRINGER shows that the defect in question is not covered by the warranty, the inspection costs are payable by the customer.

7.Products which do not meet the terms of this warranty will be repaired exclusively at the buyer’s expense. BEHRINGER will inform the buyer of any such circumstance. If the buyer fails to submit a written repair order within 6 weeks after notification, BEHRINGER will return the unit C.O.D. with a separate invoice for freight and packing. Such costs will also be invoiced separately when the buyer has sent in a written repair order.

§ 6 WARRANTY TRANSFERABILITY

This warranty is extended exclusively to the original buyer (customer of retail dealer) and is not transferable to anyone who may subsequently purchase this product. No other person (retail dealer, etc.) shall be entitled to give any warranty promise on behalf of BEHRINGER.

§ 7 CLAIM FOR DAMAGES

Failure of BEHRINGER to provide proper warranty service shall not entitle the buyer to claim (consequential) damages. In no event shall the liability of BEHRINGER exceed the invoiced value of the product.

Excellent customer service!

Even though I changed my mind and returned the product, I was given a hassle free refund!

This is a very over priced underpowered amp for home use

I bought this thing from best buy yesterday, it is the only heaphone amp i could find in town. I went to Sears, Target, Radio Shack, and even wal mart too. Nothing. I took this baby home and i tried to love it so much. You can tell by the inputs that this is more for stage and studio use, for home use its pretty crappy. :( First thing I did was a quick headphone out test from my iPhone to it on my Senn PC 350's. It did make the sound louder, that was for certain. But it added NO extra power. As far as im concerned the iPhone's output to my senn's were good enough to not worry about ever using this again. And yes, my senns through the iPhone sound like CRAP. Now to test it on my TV, which has no headphone output. After I got back from vomiting I hooked the tv's rca audio outs to my av receiver and used its headphone jack, which is a great headphone amp by the way. With this amp my tv sounded distorted at loud parts, I was testing it with COD black ops and a bassy ninja gaiden 2 demo which apparently I still had. CoD was ok through this thing, and audio porn on my own receiver. Ninja Gaiden was nothing but distorted bass the whole time, but again on my receiver pure audio heaven. At first I took my Senn's off to make sure I wasn't hearing my loudspeakers. I wasn't. And I fiddled with the gain and volume controls for quite a bit, the only way to get it loud enough to even hear would also distort the sound a LOT. I took it back to best buy within 4 hours and got less than full refund, stupid restocking fees!!!! One thing i did notice, and gave it an extra star for, was that with my iphone paused if I turned the gain and volume to the max it was pure silence. No hiss, no crackle, and no buzzing. I live in a fairly old house with bad wiring, i hear noise in my audio a lot from this. But the Behr picked none of it up. Would i recommend this product? Yes, but only to musicians, and maybe video gamers using the turtle beach xlc's. This thing is REALLY good for splitting a headphone signal and giving 4 people separate volume controls. I thought about keeping this thing and buying a few more turtle beach xlc headsets, the cheap ones (lol) and that way me and my roomate could both use them and have our own volume control. But in the end I said the hell with him. I wanted this thing to push my Senn's better than my 24/96 soundblaster usb soundcard on my laptop when I played wow, and this just wont. And no that soundcard isnt good for good headphones. regular ones yes, but my iphone can push the Senn's better.

Works Great lacks cables

We assumed this item would come with cables because they are a little odd (1/4 inch). The correct looking cable available at Radio shack was not correct (Y for two headphones and one source) would not give stereo using it for input to amp. Ended up purchasing Radio Shack 1/4 inch stereo phono to individual RCA outputs and using adaptors. Not a real problem but there will be those who purchase the Radio Shack Y (has right sized jacks) but doesn't give stereo output.

I just bought it today but be warned..

I just purchased this item today. That's why I could only give it 4 stars. I am satisfied with it so far. I'm using it to amplify my Roland Keyboard to get more sound out of my headphones. As many of you know, the Behringer brand is not synonymous with quality. I've talked to several music store people about this and most of them have the same opinion. However, there's something to be said for getting a less expensive product if you don't mind sacrificing quality. If you buy this item 'BE WARNED'. It specifically says in the user's manual. 'When you finish using the AMP800, unplug the power supply unit from the power source. As long as the power supply unit is connected to a power source, the power supply unit consumes energy.' That's probably why Behringer's products tend to 'burn out' as some people have said because they leave these items plugged up when not using them. Unplug it when you are not using it. It's obviously not like most small electronics that we're used to just pushing the off switch when we're done using them. Or, do what I did and plug it into a power strip so that you can switch it off instead of having to reach behind the unit and unplug it every time. It's not for professional use in my opinion but as another reviewer said it gets the job done.

Decent for the price.

Generally, this thing is a bit noisy, but bearable for maybe a home theater system or something like that where you sit farther away from the speakers. The mixer's main volume has some extra gain to it, and going past halfway causes a lot of extra noise. This mixer seemed to interact with my sound card and cause ground loops, which it weird because my soundcard isn't even direct plugged into an outlet. Anyways, I ended up returning mine and upgrading to the Samson matrix mixer. We'll see how that goes.
