This troubleshooting page will help you approach problems with your Acer Chromebook R11

Chromebook Will Not Turn On

When the power button is pushed, the screen is blank and/or the Chromebook does not turn on.

Dead Battery

The laptop could be out of battery. Make sure to plug the charger in a working outlet and check if all plugs are secure. If the Chromebook still won't charge, see 'Battery Will Not Charge'.

As a last resort, remove the battery by unscrewing the back to observe if there is any damage to the battery. See our guide on how to remove the battery.

Overheating

If the bottom of the computer is hot to the touch, the Chromebook could be overheating and, by default, will not turn on. Unplug your laptop from the charger. Do not attempt to turn on the laptop for 30 min to allow it to cool down. Turn back on once Chromebook has cooled off.

Miscellaneous Glitch

Hard resets can solve several problems. Ensure that the laptop is completely turned off. Hold down the refresh button and press the power button simultaneously. Keep in mind that this is NOT a factory reset and will not erase any files.

Broken Motherboard

As a last resort, it is possible that the motherboard has stopped functioning, and needs to be replaced. if this is the case, see our guide for motherboard replacement.

Chromebook Camera is Not Working

Camera isn’t working, or there is a message that says “No camera found”. Samsung galaxy 4g lte watch.

Camera is Not Connected

Perform a Hard Reset. Hold down the refresh button and press the power button simultaneously. Keep in mind that this is NOT a factory reset and will not erase any files.

Check if the Chromebook recognizes the webcam. Go to Settings -> Advanced -> Privacy -> Content settings -> Media. Check if the drop-down box shows the camera. If not, contact your Chromebook manufacturer.

Try using the camera in another app. If it works in that app, try closing and restarting the original app where the camera doesn’t work and install it again. If the webcam still does not work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the original app. Apps can be removed from the apps list.

App Interference

Log out of the Chromebook and sign in as Guest. Open Chrome and go to a website that uses webcam, like Skype. If the webcam works, it is a software conflict issue. To resolve this, you may need to reset the browser settings back to the default. To perform the reset, go to Settings -> Advanced -> Reset settings

If the problem remains after trying these steps, contact your Chromebook manufacturer.

Camera is Broken

Replace the camera.

Battery Will Not Charge

132t

Your blue charger LED will not turn on when plugged in.

Charger Not Plugged In

Make sure to plug the charger in a working outlet and check if all plugs in the laptop and the power brick are secure. Try a different power outlet if possible.

The outlet that is currently being used could be faulty. Use a different outlet to ensure it is not a hardware issue. Check the power cord for any damage to the wire. If there are internal metal wires that are visible or the wire is frayed at any point, the problem could be the charger.

Malfunctioning Charger

Consider replacing your charger. More information can be found here.

Dirty Battery Port

Use compressed air to clean out where the charger is inserted into the laptop. Dirt and dust may have dirtied the ports.

Compressed air can be found on Amazon.

As a last resort, remove the battery by unscrewing the back to see if there is any damage to the battery. For instructions how to remove the battery, see this guide.

Keyboard Does Not Work

Any or all of your keys are unresponsive, or certain keys have unintended effects.

Keyboard Contamination

If liquid is spilled into the keyboard, the keyboard components should be cleaned and dried as soon as possible, and as thoroughly as possible. Remove the keycaps using a keycap remover or another tool that fits (small flathead screwdriver, tweezers, etc.). For any spilled liquids other than water, a damp cloth with a little soap may be required. Do not allow excess liquid to stay in the keyboard. Afterwards, the keyboard should be left to dry as needed.

Unintended PC Settings

Go to PC Settings -> Ease of Access -> Select Keyboard.

Uncheck Filter Keys unless the feature is intended. Check/uncheck any other desired/undesired options.

Hardware Glitch

Acer Chromebook Cb5 132t C8zw

Hold down the refresh button and press the power button simultaneously. Keep in mind that this is NOT a factory reset and will not erase any files. More simply, turn the Chromebook off, wait 45-60 seconds, then turn the Chromebook back on.

If issues persist, turn the Chromebook off and disconnect the power cord. Remove the battery and put it back in. Reconnect the power supply and turn the Chromebook back on.

Software Issue

Acer Cb5 132t Specs

In the rare case that none of the above solutions work, a software issue might be the problem. Reinstall Chrome OS. Details can be found on Google's support page.

Touchpad is Unresponsive

Cursor does not go where you want it to, tapping or scrolling produces unexpected results.

Touchpad Glitch

Clean any dust or dirt on touchpad, then press Esc several times.

Unintended Mouse Settings

Click your account photo and select Settings. Find the “Device” section and click on Touchpad settings (or Touchpad and mouse settings). Adjust settings as needed.

Chrome OS Issue

Many touchpad problems can be fixed in ways similar to fixing the keyboard. If a restart does not work, try reinstalling Chrome OS. Here's how to reinstall Chrome OS.

Sound is Not Working

Sound should be playing from the Chromebook but is either muted, too quiet, or garbled.

Unintended Sound Settings

If there is no sound, check that the system is not muted. Go to the volume settings in the Status Panel found in the lower right corner. If the settings are in order, check the settings of the source of the sound. Youtube videos, iTunes, and other media sources often have their own volume control. Double check that all settings are not muted or turned down.

Devices Not Fully Connected

If you are using headphones or external speakers to play the sound, check that they are fully connected. An icon in the Status Panel, on the lower right corner of the screen, will indicate where the Chromebook is attempting to play sound from, either its own speakers, headphones (or any device connected via the headphone jack), or Bluetooth. If your device is not connected, be sure that it is plugged in all the way. If it is a Bluetooth device, try reconnecting it.

Software Glitch

Occasionally the Chromebook will experience a software malfunction, which can result in the loss of sound capabilities. Reset your Chromebook by turning it completely off, then pressing the Refresh Key (found at the top of the keyboard) and the Power button simultaneously.
